A data analyst recruitment agency sources, technically assesses, and places professionals across the analytics function: data analysts, business intelligence developers, analytics engineers, data engineers, and data scientists.
The reason a specialist matters in this discipline is specific, and it is not seniority.
Analytics is the function where CV claims and actual capability diverge most. Almost every candidate lists SQL, Python, Power BI, and Tableau. A much smaller number can write a window function without help, explain why their query is slow, or build a semantic model that survives contact with a real business question.
A generalist recruiter cannot tell the difference. They forward the CV, your data lead spends 45 minutes discovering the gap, and the process restarts. Repeated across a shortlist of five, that is most of a working week lost to screening that should never have reached you.
Alliance assesses technically before submission. You are not sent CVs. You are sent candidates whose SQL, Python and BI capability has been evidenced.

How Long Does It Take to Hire a Data Analyst?
Shortlists for analyst and BI developer roles are delivered within 5 working days. Senior and specialist roles, including analytics engineers, data scientists, and ML-adjacent positions, take 2 to 4 weeks. Analytics leadership roles, including Head of Data and Director of Analytics, take 4 to 8 weeks.
What Does Data Analyst Recruitment Cost?
Permanent placements are charged as a percentage of the candidate’s first-year salary, with the rate varying by seniority and market. Contract analytics staff are charged at an hourly or daily rate inclusive of statutory costs. Alliance provides a written fee indication before any sourcing begins.
This is the most common source of a failed analytics hire, and it costs more than a bad candidate does. Hiring a data scientist when the requirement is a BI developer produces a frustrated employee and an unbuilt dashboard.
| Role | Core question they answer | Primary tooling | Hire them when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Data Analyst | “What happened, and why?” | SQL, Excel, Power BI or Tableau, sometimes Python | You have data and need reliable answers, reporting and business-facing insight |
| BI Developer | “How do we see this without asking every time?” | SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Looker, DAX, semantic modelling | Reporting is manual, inconsistent, or bottlenecked on one person |
| Analytics Engineer | “Can we trust the numbers?” | dbt, SQL, warehouse modelling, version control, testing | Different teams get different answers to the same question |
| Data Engineer | “How does the data get here reliably?” | Python, Spark, Airflow, Kafka, cloud warehousing, pipelines | Pipelines break, data arrives late, or ingestion is the constraint |
| Data Scientist | “What will happen, and what should we do?” | Python, R, statistics, ML frameworks, experimentation | You have clean, reliable data and a genuine prediction or optimisation problem |
| ML Engineer | “How does the model run in production?” | Python, MLOps, containerisation, model serving, monitoring | Models exist but are not deployed, monitored or maintained |
The most common mistake we see is hiring a data scientist into an organisation whose data is not yet trustworthy. The scientist spends nine months doing data engineering, becomes disengaged, and leaves. If your reporting is inconsistent, the first hire is almost always an analytics engineer or BI developer, not a scientist.
Alliance scopes the requirement before sourcing and will tell you when the role you have written is not the role you need. For AI and machine learning specialist hiring, see our AI and machine learning recruitment practice.

This is the section that matters most, and it is where a generalist agency has nothing to offer.
Every analytics candidate is tested on SQL to a level matched to the role. Junior analysts are assessed on joins, aggregation, and filtering. Mid-level and senior candidates are assessed on window functions, CTEs, query performance, execution plans, and handling of NULLs and duplicates in real datasets. Claiming SQL and writing production SQL are different things, and we establish which one applies before submission.
Where the role requires it, Python capability is evidenced through pandas, NumPy, and data manipulation work, not through a stated familiarity. For data science roles, statistical methodology, model selection reasoning, and validation approach are assessed, because a candidate who cannot explain why they chose a model is not able to defend its output to your board.
Power BI, Tableau, Looker, and Qlik are not interchangeable. A strong Tableau developer may be genuinely weak in DAX. We match candidates to the tool you actually run, and where transferability is realistic, we say so explicitly rather than presenting it as equivalence.
An analyst who produces a technically correct answer to the wrong question adds no value. Candidates are assessed on how they interrogate an ambiguous business question, what they clarify before starting, how they handle a stakeholder who has already decided the answer, and how they communicate a finding that contradicts what the business expected.
We put candidates in front of messy, realistic data and observe what they notice: duplicates, inconsistent categorisation, missing values, obviously wrong outliers. The candidates who spot these unprompted are materially more valuable than those who process what they are given.
Analytics in banking, healthcare and insurance carries obligations that analytics in retail does not. Where the role sits in a regulated environment, we screen for relevant exposure to GDPR, HIPAA, data residency requirements and model governance, rather than assuming technical skill transfers across regulatory contexts.

United Kingdom and Europe: analytics recruitment across London, Manchester, Birmingham, Dublin, Amsterdam, Berlin and the Nordics, including GDPR-aware data governance hiring.
India: our largest analytics talent market, supplying both domestic employers and offshore analytics delivery teams for US, UK and European clients. Deep supply across analyst, BI, data engineering and data science ranks.
Canada and Australia: analytics hiring across Toronto, Vancouver, Sydney and Melbourne.
Middle East: the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, supporting analytics build-out across banking, government and large-scale development programmes.
Offshore and distributed teams: where you are building an analytics function outside your home market, Alliance recruits and, where required, employs the team locally.
For project-based and interim analytics resourcing, see our contract staffing service.
We establish the actual role beneath the job title: the business problem, the current data maturity, the stack, the stakeholder environment, and the seniority genuinely required. Where the written role does not match the stated problem, we say so.
Alliance searches our analytics candidate database and conducts active market sourcing, including passive candidates not visible on job boards.
SQL, Python, BI tooling, business reasoning, and data quality judgement are assessed against the specific requirements, with evidence recorded.
You receive a shortlist with assessment evidence per candidate: what was tested, how they performed, and where the gaps are. Gaps are stated, not hidden. A candidate who is strong in SQL and weak in DAX is presented as exactly that.
Alliance coordinates scheduling, feedback, and candidate communication, and supports compensation structuring against current market data.
We stay in contact through the first 90 days. Permanent placements carry a replacement guarantee: if a placement does not work out within the guarantee period, we run the search again.
“Alliance helped us find experienced data analysts who matched our SQL and Power BI requirements. Their technical screening saved our team significant time and ensured we were interviewing candidates with the right skills.”
“We were looking for data professionals with strong Python, SQL, and analytical skills. Alliance provided a focused shortlist and clearly highlighted each candidate’s strengths, making our selection process much more efficient.”
“Our analytics hiring requirements were quite specific, particularly around BI tools and data quality. Alliance understood our technical needs, assessed candidates before submission, and helped us move from requirement to interviews smoothly.”
