Job Descriptions:
The Maternal Health Consultant is responsible for providing technical assistance and
support to the Government of Karnataka in the areas of Midwifery Initiative Programme
and Maternal and reproductive health (MCH).
The Consultant will work with the government to develop and implement policies, programs,
and services that improve the health and well-being of mothers and new-borns.

Responsibilities: A) Related to Midwifery Initiative (70% of total time)
1. General Responsibilities:
• Work with state government health teams to coordinate the implementation of the
national and state midwifery training institute (NMTI/SMTI).
• Liaise with the internal team as needed and ensure colleagues and supervisors are
apprised of all aspects of the deliverables.
• Contribute to other activities and take up roles/tasks as needed.
2. Liaising with Different Stakeholders:
• Liaise with the government health and medical education department, partner
institutions, and other stakeholders to establish the NMTI and SMTI, with respect to
recognition, qualification, and permissions, etc.
• Plan and coordinate with the AUHS team as needed to facilitate effective
partnerships for all our initiatives.
• Once the NMTI and SMTIs are established and a team is appointed, continue to liaise
with all the relevant stakeholders.
• Identify challenges or roadblocks, and look at finding innovative solutions to ensure
the smooth implementation of the programme.
3. Coordinating the NMTI and SMTI Initiative:
• Provide technical support to field activities – such as identifying the groups/teams
for advocacy and sensitization programmes.
• Conduct periodic meetings with relevant stakeholders to provide support, identify
and rectify roadblocks, provide feedback to the field team and communicate issues
to the AUHS team.
• Work with the Midwife Educators (MEs) to help organise the training for each week
into a specific format, so these lessons can be easily replicated in the future at the
SMTIs.
• Ensure that all the infrastructure and teaching/training aids are in place prior to the
training sessions and assist as needed.
• Support the State in preparing the Programme Implementation Plan (PIP) and
financial guidelines as needed.
B. Related to Maternal Health (30% of total time)
• Provide technical assistance and support to the government in the areas of maternal
health and reproductive health.
• Develop and implement policies, programs, and services that improve the health and
well-being of mothers.
• Work with the government to strengthen the capacity of health systems to provide
quality maternal and new-born care.
• Conduct research and evaluation to assess the impact of maternal health and
reproductive health programs.
Experience Requirements:Fresher or with 2+ years of experience in maternal health and reproductive health.
